PRS help

I have a 2002 American singlecut that's driving me crazy. I wasn't happy with the #7 pickups so i had some boutique pafs installed that i bought from a friend WIZZ i think from Croatia. It still has this almost Santana vibe that drives me nuts. What pickups to bring it closer to a more generic gibson vibe for lack of a better term. I have read they are picky about pickups but it seems they are picky about amps as well. I don't know if i should go back to the stock #7's and try more amps or try more pups. Please any info you can share would be helpful as this is frustrating as hell.

Re: PRS help

For classic Gibson tone the Phat Cats, Seths, and Antiquities are my favorites. There are some good demos of all of them clean on youtube. Depending on what you want, the Phat Cats are really clean, Seths are a bit more crisp, and the Antiquities are super rattly and PAFed.

Re: PRS help

Have a look at the Throbak site, Jon describes PAF humbuckers at great length. There are a lot of PAF sounds out there. I'm surprised the Wizz pickups didn't do it for you, as they get a good rap.

The other possibility is the bridge, I replaced bridge hardware on my 2007 Gibson R0 and it made the guitar brighter, louder and clear sounding.

Re: PRS help

I fitted the Whole Lotta Humbucker set to my McCarty which give great open Gibsonesque tones, and they split well. I have changed the bridge pickup to a '59/Custom Hybrid, but may refit the WLH bridge.
