Hahaha! Yeah, that cherry/charcoal burst is sexy....but that is a private stock my friend. ;) None of them are cheap. However, you don't have to have a PS to get a killer sounding PRS. The wood selection on all the USA stuff is top notch.

As for the S2's there are a few important differences. There is the bevel as opposed to carved top, the neck on the S2's use a scarf joint whereas it is one piece on the core line, the pickups are "S2 line" pickups and not USA core line and the trem is the SE trem, not the USA core one. I played the S2 mira and the S2 custom 24.

My opinion: both played and sounded pretty good, but I definitely felt and noticed a difference between a core line custom 24 and the S2. You would have to play one to see if it speaks to you, but if it were ME I would probably use the money and get a used core line custom or CE model. There are lots of them around!

You could also probably just order a quilt maple/mahogany body from Warmoth/USACG and do it yourself.

I mean, it's grey + a touch of red around the sides.

Plus, with a floyd (and idk if this is just my experience) there's not much difference in sustain between set neck (PRS) and bolt-on (e.g. Warmoth).

Now, if that's neck thru I take it all back. But IME, floyd rose tremolos (even an OFR Kramer with brass block, mine is 32mm) just don't have the naked sustain of something like a callaham strat or 3-saddle tele, or stop tail LP. Now, the volume you'll probably play them at means it doesn't matter, but for all other gain levels besides "obscene" it's something to think about.

A PRS that would get my goat would be a single cut, and instead of being made by PRS it was made by Gil Yaron. That would IMO be the perfect PRS for me.

Locking tuners and locking nut don't to the same job, y'know.

Back on topic - I would bang that. Emil Werstler had a similar axe stolen in Mexico. That guitar was a beauty ;(

Agreed on looking for a Standard but the CE's are just not for me I have never played one I like the neck on.
The S-2 necks feel to me more like a Wide Fat than a standard carve and I have the Wide thin on my Custom 24. The looks are where i can't live with the S-2 Custom 24 that top bevel is FUGLY in particular really cheap looking with the cheesy flame tops they offer. They just look really cheap.
Also the S-2's use the import trem import pickups and IMO the SE's are a LOT better looking + play as well.
If they keep the S-2 Custom 24 in the line they should offer the Wide Thin neck and be solid color ONLY as the flame tops are down right hideous looking. I own a 07 Custom 24 and have seen/ played several of the S-2's and I don't care for them.
On the Floyd guitars take another look as they have a new Floyd line for 14 that won't be SO expensive + offer a Floyd on the SE's now.

If you put a big block on a Floyd it has the sustain of a Les Paul (depending on quality of guitar construction. and a flat mount Floyd has more sustain than a Floating Floyd)

It's true, they don't do the same job. But the locking nut completely negates any need for locking tuners. Because the nut locks. And the tuners are above the nut.

Locking tuners just make string changing easier.

As far as the Floyd with big block sustain - I didn't know that. Mine is a floating so that would probably explain my experience, buy when I upgraded from stock I noticed better tone, rather than more sustain. My Les Paul with locking tailpiece studs (because I top wrap) has sustain nearly as good as...

my bolt-on jazzmaster with 6-point tremolo haha. Which I think has such good sustain just on account of having resonant wood, which I think in turn was a luck thing more than a skill or experience thing.
