PRS McCarty Wiring

Does anyone have a decent schematic for the PRS McCarty wiring,
not the one from the prs website which is very incomplete, or the one from Guitarelectronics.com, which is a different circuit, or the SD schematic one for 2 hb's, one vol, one push-pull pot, which will only split the bridge pup coil?

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

The only trouble with the above schematic, is where does the jack plug attach? Can some cleverer person pls advise? Thx!
Artie???!

cos that one's even vaguer, it doesn't show the second capacitor nor what to do with the red wires from the pickups.

THere's only one capacitor because there's only one tone pot. That wiring is meant for, suprisingly enough, a McCarty /w McCarty pups. They are single conductor so using it with 4 conductor SD's isn't the same.

The GE wiring is the correct wiring to use with 4 conductors.

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

I know the McCarty diagram is for a McCarty guitar. Thats why it is no use to me. My question is about the other schematic, for a Custom modded to 3 way toggle plus push-pull tone pot.
My PRS Cu24 has stock PRS pups (black, white, red and braided earth wires), The original wiring has a small cap (180pf) wired across 2 lugs of the vol pot plus a 22uf cap on the single tone pot.
I just need to make sense of the 3-way from rotary 5-way schematic so I can solder my electrics back together. I can't see where to put the jack plug. Can anyone help please?

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

Well for the jack just take a wire from the central lug of the volume and go to the jack hot, and then of course ground the jack.

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

Tried that, itsd completely dead, must be missing something obvious here. Funny how the schematic doesn't show any ref to the hot jack, just that arrow pointing down from the vol pot case earth.
I'm stuck. :(

Al, I don't know if this will help, but here's a diagram. I just added the jack. The red line is "hot", and the blue line is ground.

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

Thx Artie, that is what I think I have now, but it's dead. Will go back and check all the wires and solders to see if I've dropped something stupid somewhere. What do you think is the point of the little cap on the vol pot? Is that to help prevent treble bleed at lower volumes?

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

If I'm not mistaken, on the McCarty diagram, the white treble and white bass should be replaced by your treble red and bass red.

The wires going into the 3-Way Toggle switch should be your treble black and your bass white.

Wires going to ground with the bare should be treble white and bass black.

Actually, its to cause treble bleed. It allows a little treble to remain as you turn down the volume.

Re: PRS McCarty Wiring

I'm going to rewire to coldhit's plan, see what happens. As far as I can see, all the connections are ok, but the guitar is stone dead.
It's really confusing, as someone on the prs forum has posted a photo of his McCarty's ctrl cavity, and there is the cap spread between the vol and tone pot lugs, something the prs McCarty schematic does differently. His photo is more like their 3-way from 5-way schematic.
