PRS Pick-up Suggestions

I'm changing the pick ups in my custom 22 with a 5 toggle switch. Since coilsplitting is involved I figured the SH-4jb and the SH-1 59n would be pretty sweet way to go. any suggestions?

Re: PRS Pick-up Suggestions

Well first you have to tell us what kind of music you play. I play a carvin CT6, which is much like a PRS but with a ebony fretboard, and have a CC and APH that are both wired for coil tapping. The pickups work great for jazz, blues, indie rock (when the coils are split), fusion, etc. and are able to get a number of different tones. They sound great clean or overdriven, but not when heavily distorted. If you're going to go the heavy distortion route then you are probably going to want a jazz neck, due to the "boomyness" of the 59' which can be overbearing, and either a JB or custom in the bridge.

Hey man, welcome to the forum!

Lot's of good suggestions, and your idea will work too, the thing is we can help you more/better if you tell us the style you play.

I'm pretty diverse in my playing. blues, indie, funk, metal, grind, jazz, classical, classic rock, mostly reggea at the moment. that's why I thought the JB would be a good "overall" bridge pick up. I just thought I'd take a chance with the SH-1...I already have the SH-2 in another guitar, it sounds amazing but I wanted to see how a PAF would sound in my PRS

Re: PRS Pick-up Suggestions

I love the JB in everything I've ever installed it in, don't think a PRS would be any different. I'm about to find out on my Mccarty when I find a pickup for the neck! Something like 59/Jazz/Alnico II/Pearly Gates....not sure yet!

I'd stick with your original choice - the JB is perfect ( I went for a '59 neck in my CE22)
