PRS pickups advice needed !Help

Re: PRS pickups advice needed !Help

First off I believe with the 5 way rotary switch set up you will need to watch your mag direction as one needs to be flipped and i don't know if PRS flips the neck or bridge mag. Maybe some one here will chime in on this as you will need to know and act accordingly.
I have a 07 Custom 24 with that HFS/VB set up and have never wanted to mess with mine as to me the classic PRS tone is all about the VB/HFS in a Custom 24. I also agree with you in particular about the VB being a nice neck bucker. Saying that have a BUNCH of other guitars and most have Duncans. What is it about the HFS you don't like and what are you looking for tone wise? Being I have a PRS with that set up and so many other guitars to compare it with how can I help?

Well, if you were to go with a 59/Custom bridge and '59b for the neck, wouldn't you end up splitting to the same coils in the in-between positions? My knee jerk opinion is that should work quite well.

Yep, with the 5-way you never get a coil by itself so vintage output is no problem at all. Myself, even on other guitars I don't mind lower output when split - it automatically gives you cleaner tone from the amp.

OP, bear in mind that you'll need to flip the magnet in a Duncan bridge pickup to get full humbucking in the PRS coil-combined positions. Easy to do, especially with an uncovered pickup.

The Hybrid split to the Custom coil (not to the '59) so it won't be weaker than the neck '59 when using both together.
(But I haven't personally tried yet: I will try this week-end...)

It was a wise idea from SD to have it splitting to the stronger coil.

Ok so its the Bridge that needs to be flipped not the neck? Can we confirm this as have not done it myself but looked at it as I have gotten used to the 5 way PRS switching and though about using it in a non PRS guitar so knew about having to flip on e mag just not which one PRS flipped.

Rigjt, so the Br split + the N split would end up with the same combined coils as the 59/Custom, just from different pickups.

Re: PRS pickups advice needed !Help

We'll I'll have to start at some point...I guess that '59s are gonna be the first victim

Re: PRS pickups advice needed !Help

No it's not gonna be...gotta start with "Home of tone" steel house set (neck 8.5k bridge 12.5 k)...ordered it last night ...We'll wait and see...but more important hear...
