PRS pickups/phase

I have been reading through some posts, but I'm confused. If I have a PRS HFS in the bridge, and I want to put a Duncan Jazz in the neck, will they be out of phase? Do I need to match PRS with PRS only? I really like the HFS but want something different in the neck. It is in an Ibanez Artist, and the original Ibanez Super58 is in the neck and sounds great with the HFS. Would the Duncan be different?

I haven't tried mixing Duncan and PRS pickups... BUT if they are out of phase you should be able to correct that by switching the White and Black wires on the PRS pickup. And if that is not an option you can always flip the magnet around to correct the phasing. (It is more complicated when you are trying to work the PRS 5 way rotary switch into the equation.)

P.S. It sure would be nice if there was one master list for all common pickups indicating magnetic polarities and winding directions. :dance:

If the HFS is working with the Ibanez you should be ok with the SD Jazz pickup.

When PRS uses the HFS with their Vintage neck pickup and the 5 way rotary switch, the HFS is stud south, which is opposite polarity from SD, Gibson and many other makers. The PRS HFS in the 5 way wiring also has an oppsite wind direction. PRS does that to get the inner/outer options properly phased and to get the polarity right.

You can flip the magnet to correct those issues or you can correct both issues by using the various options available with the SD 4 conductor wiring. If you run into trouble we can work it out for you.
