PRS pron

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
Although I cant gel with them and thankfully so due to the prices, PRS makes some gorgeous guitars! Here is a run called "Finished Flame" even tho sure does appear to be quilted maple to me. Anyhow, at first the first color Blood Orange didnt trip my trigger, but staring at it awhile, its really growing on me..

So, for you PRS guys, or guys like me that love beautiful figuring..

Nice book matching too! I always laugh when I read an add on ebay or something where the two halves of the top are completely diff and the seller says bookmatched..

Re: PRS pron

I'll never understand how companies like PRS never seem to run out of beautiful figured wood??? You'd think the supply would have dried up by now, but every year they just seem to get better.

Agreed... their woods seem to pop like nobody else's. They almost look unreal in some cases.

Love 'em though, they're some gorgeous guitars! (Kind of partial to that Black Gold myself)

That's because you're looking at the Artist Grade wood and Private stock wood- which PRS demands alot of money for (generally a $5,000 guitar).

The regular curly maple or even 10 top PRS is kinda bland for a $2900 guitar. For that price there's recent Gibsons with nicer tops.

Gearjoneser, all of those are amazing!! But the first one..... wow!! Never seen quilt that open or however you would describe it...

As far as the wood resources.. They probably "make"it themselves... I always thought that flame and quilt and all was gathered by lucky find.. Therefore, would make it VERY limited.. However, I went to the shop of a small builder in Jax. (mostly built violins, but did all stringed instruments.. He was very gracious and showed me around his shop.. He had a coulple of big "blocks" of wood in garbage bags. Looked like stumps but without roots. The had water in the bags.. Asked about them and he said there was something in the bags with the water that diseased the wood to make flame an quilt tops. Now, Unless he was fully pulling my leg, this explains how some of these cos can get so much. He had many instruments built from beautiful flame and quilt tops..
