Re: PRS pups: Whats the deal?
guitar companies do what they do best, guitars.
i guess that's why duncan is still kicking, because of guitar builders not really understanding tone. like someone said before, they have an idea of what it should sound like and think it's the general idea. but to each his own, that's why we change pots, caps, resistors, linear, rewiring adding push pull etc etc
I think once you learn how to mod your guitar alone, you are in for a curse/blessing because that's when you learn you can shape a tone to your needs, then when you are happy with the guitar, you start noticing the lack of tone (or added middrange, or missing midrange or too much treble etc) then, the amp doesn't cut it and you try and change that and etc and etc.
like with guitar playing it's a never ending cycle of trial and error, even all the guitar greats like to change their tone, which tells you.. there isn't a right tone, there is a right tone... for now... (you've seen satriani at gibson testing out the Jimmy page models and then going on stage with it to the g3 concert ?) or andy timmons switching to Mesa after years with Laney (I haven't heard him with Mesa, but with Laney his tone is scorching) and Petrucci, he changed his amps and gear for almost every album.
I guess we are somewhat lucky we don't have endorsments (yes ! so very lucky ! *sarcastic*) because we can change what we want, whenever we want and how we want it.
