PRS SE Alex Lifeson Acoustic... thoughts?

I was in a local music store this past week and tried one of these. I have to admit that I almost passed right by it because I have this thing in my mind that "signature series" guitars are more marketing than quality (I know... not necessarily true, but hey, we all have our little mental hangups). I really liked it... it sounded, played & felt VERY similar to the Taylors I had just tried before it at half the price. Any experiences or thoughts?

Sounds good, feels good, is good.

I never woke up and said "MY GOD - LIFESON'S ACOUSTIC TONE - MUST HAVE!!!!"

It seems like a guitar for stage...

I pretty much feel the same way. Lifeson's tone is good but fairly typical, so his name being on it is "meh" to me, but it sure felt like a guitar I could bond with.

I have an Ibanez Euphoria it is pretty much the same guitar as the Steve Via model acoustic. There is a different preamp. I saved $500 by not having Via's name and some extra flourishes on the guitar. There is no need to change the preamp but if I was inclined to it sure the hell wouldn't cost me $500. I am not sure if PRS has a "base" model based on Alex's guitar.

This model is the "less-fancy" version of his first one, made to be less expensive. $799 seems to be the going price, which isn't bad at all.

Still, that's worth checking into. If I could find the same basic guitar for even $100 less, I could give two $#!+$ about whether his name was on it or not.

Reason enough to buy it. You may not find another Lifeson model that sounds or feels as good, or anything else in your price range either.
