PRS SE custom, how big a difference is the trem model to the stop tail model?

Can anyone tell me if there is a lot of difference in a PRS SE or similar guitar with a trem or a stop tail piece? I want the stoptail and I wouldn't be using the trem, but the only one I can find is a trem and I'm not wanting to wait:smack: So, can anyone tell me if there would be a noticable difference tonewise? If so, what kind of difference? It's not that big of a deal to me playing wise, just wondering about the tone.

Thanks!:headbang:

They certainly sound different. The stoptail models have better sustain obviously, but even the SE trems PRS make are pretty good - you don't get that horrible ringing sound that afflicts crap FRs.

I'd be inclined to wait for a stoptail model really if you don't use the trem; all trems introduce tuning problems and don't age well etc etc, if you don't use them there's a strong case to be made for not having one.

You're right, but I've played a strat over 95% of the time since I've played guitar, so I was thinking that it might be better for me with palm mutes and all because I'm used to a trem. I just don't want to wait around 2 or more months.:smash:

we ordered one of those with the trem for my sister, of course it's backordered and not gonna be here until like mid-may...so I'll have to wait until then to say anything

www.sweetwater.com has one in stock, but that probably doesn't help now.:hijacked: Hijacked my own thread:banana:

In case you didn't know, a chain store like GC will do a inter-store transfer, so any PRS SE that is available at other Guitar Centers can be sent to your store.

If you're used to a trem bridge, you'll probably like the trem version better. PRS trems are actually pretty good. However, there's more sustain and a punchier sound from a stoptail. With the trem version, you can intonate different tunings and string gauges a lot better. With the stoptail, you'll have a smooth spot to rest your palm, as well as better energy transfer between the body and bridge.

I debated waiting for a stop tail or getting the trem model and I'm glad
I went with the trem. If you can't wait, I don't think you'll be disappointed,
but I'd play 1 first before if you can. Not the best pic, but you get the idea!

so you reallly like yours lurch? just checking because it's the first time we've ever bought amodel of a guitar without playing one and that's just because we couldn't...let me know what you think of yours

I love it. As far as I'm concerned, it's hard to beat in this price range.
My only complaint is/was the nut was a bit on the tight side so keeping
it in tune was a bit of a pain. A little filing later and it's all good.
Stock pickups aren't that bad either, and it doesn't sound or play as
cheap as it is.

I just played one not long ago at a local store here. They had several SE guitars, and a couple with a trem. I only played a trem one, same PRS lurch has. It played exceptionally well, i will agree that you shouldnt be disappointed unless something is wrong with the guitar. Sustain is one thing that really bothers me in guitars, and this one was fine. Tonewise it sounded great too, better than the vast majority of guitars in its price range.

i would get the trem but im partial to trem guitars. i dont always use the trem but i like it to be there when i want it. the sustain is better and if tuning is a problem, you can always just set the trem flush to the body.

hi,

2 questions if I may:

1) how's the balance on these soapbar SE's?
I read a review that said the guitar was "light" , this worries me a bit with regards to neck-heavy issues.

2) if you get a chance can you measure something on your PRS SE for me?

From the end of the body (not including strap button) to the nut, the edge closest to the freboard. Not over the taipiece and pickups, but off to the side a bit avoiding them.
I have short arms and I want to see how deep the neck is set into the body.

Thanks if you can help. :)
