Prs se custom vs standard 24

Ahh, prs.. they've got everything I'm looking for in a guitar: 24 frets, vintage trem, H/H w coil split, nice design..
My only question is what is the main difference between a standard and a custom (that justifies the almost double price)
Standard: Indonesia, bound maple neck, no flame top
Custom: Korea, maple neck (what's the difference?), flame top
Is the price difference only because of the finish? They have the same pickups, trem and everything (on paper).. or is it the factory? If it has a bad nut, frets sticking out or a poor setup I can fix that..
My second question would be that: buying a standard, changing the pups (maybe with the ones they have on the usa ones, something versatile), maybe buying better/locking tuners (depending on what the tuning stability is), sanding the neck for better feel (I currently play on a wizard 3 neck), so on and so forth might even get me a guitar for life (haha)? How close would it be to the real thing? Feel and sound wise (i can get past the looks)? I don't think I'll ever need to change it unless it breaks or something.. anyways, what do you guys think?

In PRS nomenclature, standard has traditionally meant no maple top on the body. All mahogany body.

The Asian built PRS guitars (SE) tend to play very good and stay in tune. They are very good guitars especially for the money. Of course compared to a USA built PRS they probably fall a bit short but not by as much as the price difference would indicate.

It depends. My PRS SE Custom 24 30th Anniversary Flametop came with a mahogany body, flame maple top, maple neck AND an ebony fretboard...

I noticed what appears to be a contradiction on PRS's website.

The following paragraph is taken from the overview of the PRS SE Standard 24:

"Perfect as a first guitar or the last guitar you’ll ever need, the PRS SE Standard 24 faithfully recreates the foundational design of the Custom 24, PRS’s flagship model, with all-mahogany body construction. This guitar features classic PRS appointments, including a 24-fret mahogany neck (set neck construction), rosewood fretboard with bird inlays, 85/15 “S” pickups, and the PRS patented molded tremolo, resulting in a guitar that handles well and sounds as good plugged straight into an amp as it does run through a pedal board."

Both guitars have identical hardware. As LPB said, the only difference is the addition of a maple top with maple veneer to the Custom.
