PRS SE single cut bridge pickup options.

Hi everyone I just bought a SE single cut for cheap. I change pickups in almost every guitar I get. I was thinking about trying a el diablo in the bridge but I don't know much about it. The neck will probably be a pg. Would this be a good sounding combo? Any other suggestions?

Re: PRS SE single cut bridge pickup options.

Les Pauls acoustically have a fat bass end and bright solid highs, so scooped humbuckers do not do well because it over accentuates the natural tones and leaves the mids empty. You need pickups that are not overly bassy and have some mid content.

With the PRS Singlecut, acoustically, mine had a firm big bass, but the highs were not particularly strong. Several pickups I tried sounded way too fat on the bottom and too thin on the top. I would suggest something like the Pearly Gates Bridge or the CustomCustom. Take that with a grain of salt though, because I only had one example of a PRS Single Cut.

All variants of the PRS SE Singlecut are a good bit slimmer than a Gibson Les Paul. If the model in question has a maple cap at all, it is probably no more than half an inch thick at the highest point of the carve.

My experience with numerous PRS SE guitars is that they gel wonderfully with P90-type pickups - especially through 6L6-powered amplification.

For the OP's guitar, I strongly recommend SD P-Rails pickups and an improved switching system - either SD Triple Shot surrounds, the Freeway 3X3-03 toggle selector switch or push-pull pots.

OK thank you. I had a bk alnico warpig laying around. I put that in but it sounds very muddy in it. So I see what MR.B is saying. I have always liked p-90's in the neck so maybe I'll use a set of those. Thanks for the suggestions.

Call Lindy Fralin - he made pickups for Paul Smith's handmade guitars before PRS started using machines for everything :fing2:

If the War pig didn't work out well in that guitar, you might want to re-think the El Diablo. It uses two A2 mags, is hot, balanced eq-wise and overall has a dark tonality. Also won't be quite as tight in the low end as your War pig. Works awesome in a bright guitar, but I would look for other choices in a darker sounding guitar. The "original" El Diablo (a seriously over wound Screamin Demon)......that would be a different story. ;)
