They're nice. They're made by D'Addario but to PRS specs. I find them a bit less bright than D'Ad XLs.

After I use up all my D'Ad and PRS strings (hard to do when you change them less than twice a year), I'll probably go to Snake Oil Strings. They have nice richness and clarity without being overly bright.

Oh right, I might give 'em a go then.

I use D'Addario EXL110s at the moment but I'm considering moving up a gauge and/or trying a different type; the 110s seem to lose their liveliness after a few days, I was thinking I might give Elixir or PRS a go...

i bet he isnt ...

i like deadish strings ... i wash my hands before each play and wipe the strings down after each play ... and given the number of guitars i play, only one of them really gets a lot of playing (~2 hrs / week or so) ... strings last me pretty long and i dislike the sound of new ones .. too zingy

I'm the same way. New strings are too bright and don't hold their tuning as well. I've played 5 gigs on this set and they are still in pretty good shape. My touch must be getting lighter and that is a good thing.

Nope. And the SOB strings on my PRS are going on two years. :eek:

Living in an arid region and having non-acidic sweat probably helps a lot, though.

Really---I had a set of .013 to .050 on my Tele for about 2 years. I kept them clean, but they played like .010 and sounded great.

I was able to get a few sets of Ernie Ball 5150 Van Halen strings a few years back when I bought my Axis. They sounded better on that guitar than the Ernie Ball Slinkys, they were less bright, and more of a brown , Van Halen tone.

I've had the same strings (d'addario's, my favourite) on my Ibanez for two years, and they STILL haven't gone dead.

I prefer D'addarios over other string brands, since they sound very consistent, not overly bright when new, and not "dead" when old. For an example, to my ears, Rotosounds has a very chimey and brilliant tone when new, but sounds really dead after just a day.

Yeeshhh...

I'm lucky if I make it a month with a set of strings...even "premium" ones. I don't have the acidic sweat, but I beat the crap outta the things.

Fresh strings are the only way to fly. I don't care what brand you use or what your sweat is like strings lose their edge. Whether you like that sound or not is another matter entirely. I don't.

I love day old strings. Just broken in, and left to settle in and stuff. Especially Elixirs, because I don't have to use GHS Fast Fret on those.

On topic-I played a totally stock PRS once, which I am guessing has PRS strings on, and in all honesty, I didn't like them very much at all, no real richness to them, played acoustically or electrically.

Now that you mention it, the strings that were factory fitted on my PRS were sh!te... but it's only a poor man's PRS so perhaps they used something else. Still, you'd think they'd want to give you taste of their consumables, hoping you'll buy some more...

Yeah, the factory ones' aren't really good.

Order them from the site however...those are really good.

But at $20+...it's not really worth it.

Just stick to the D'Addario's

You're right man. That's what got me onto Fender strings in the first place. My Strat came with a little tag saying 'Fender Super Bullets' as if they were proud to say they had their own strings on their guitar. If it weren't for that tag, I'd still be using Ernie Ball's.

Not really a good test since there is no way to know how old they are. Even when they aren't played, strings lose elasticity from being under tension.

$20? Where are you buying strings? I get PRS strings for $6 at the local hut.

I think they're great. A softer feel and warmer/smoother top end. Quite the opposite of D'Addario which is ironic given that D'Addario is considered to be the mfg. (PRS has never officially revealed the mfg to my knowledge)
