PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

Re: PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

I read that black and gold 2555xs have recently shown up on one European retailer's online catalog.

Tone differences between originals and the reissues are mostly tubes, v1 especially, and bias adjustment.

Re: PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

I'd like to know if the reissues have Drake trannies like the 87's, or if they have Axiom w/plugs like the newer DSL's.

Re: PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

I doubt they are Drakes. I think Drakes are no longer made. The 100 watt Marshalls back in the 80s had, if I recall correctly, Dagnalls, which are also extinct. The transformers alone on the old 50 watt Jubes probably weigh more than the entire mini Jubilee amp of 22 lbs. The mini sounds real close though.

Re: PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

I can't say the current Axiom transformers are bad either. They feature plugs rather than hardwired, but they're still made by Mercury, so they're not junk.

Yes Danalls were used in 100 watt Marshalls starting in the late 60's. My '78 2203 has them.
Dagnall is now back in business.

My JVM410H made in 2011
has Dagnall transformers also.

No sure what is in the reissue Jubilee but they look like the current production Heyboers or Classic Tone ones.

Heyboers are good. I used them in my JMT45 build. I have heard good things about Classic Tone as well.

Well thanks to this thread, I now really want that mini jubilee head. Sounds so good. and I've been wanting good marshall gain lately.

Re: PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

there's nothing like 100W headroom though. the 2555x is not too loud for personal use at home. it's not like plexis where if you breathe on the volume knob or just look at the volume knob with contempt the amp will begin to rattle the walls.

I bought one of the $999 2555X amps last week, and couldn't be happier with it.
Sorry, I just can't bring myself to accept anything "mini" when it comes to Marshall and (my) amps. I know it is just a mental block, but I'm fine with that.
"But you have to turn it up". Okay, I'll turn it up! I'd only have a problem if I had to turn it down.

Re: PSA $1,249 for a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee @ AMS.

who else finds the 50W mode has a deep cycle hum at low volumes? not cool. i guess nothing is perfect.

is 75 mA the best sounding and most reliable bias?

damn, that amp is nice.
