I've heard of them before. There's definitely some curiosity on my part.

They were reviewed in Guitar World or Guitar Player briefly a few months bang and viewed as a good "bang for the buck" buy.

Hmm...tempting. ******y names and inlays, though.

Re: PSA- Hard Luck Kings Guitars- pre-Black Friday deals

I have a bossman I bought with the intention to modify. I liked it enough to not touch it and keep it as a backup. It sounds great and plays good.

My dad who has played nothing but strats and Gibson TD335 and 355s liked it so I bought him a Southern Belle because he said he always wanted a Tele. He loves his also.

I agree that for the $$$ they are hard to beat. They are set up decently out the box but with a little tweeking you'd be suprised how good it feels.
I did change the strings from 10s to 9s also.

For reference my man guitars are a 1991 RG770DX and 2008 Jackson PC1 with a highly modified RG350DX as a backup.
Going to 22 frets from 24 was a big deal but as far as feel and comfort I like the Hardluck kings.

Yeah those horrid spider inlays have my PayPal account in retreat.

I also saw a yootob vid of an older spider that had a reverse headstock. That may have won out over the inlays. I guess I could buy overlay stickers or something.

The least credible sources for reviews...surprised they didn't give it 5 stars and say BUY NOW.

For the price its hard not to nab one just to try

After searching the bowels of Google I believe I may save my money. There are several horror stories I read and it was suggested that the company creates accounts and reviews their own products..
I believe I'll continue to hit pawn shops and Craigslist for deals on used gear to repair..

Re: PSA- Hard Luck Kings Guitars- pre-Black Friday deals

^^ Me too to be honest.

And in regards to reviews...lots of companies (especially smaller ones) do this, or pay for a service to do this for them.

Yeah, I consider it Milli Vanilli reviews... I cant recall who it was, but some co a few years back was slagged pretty hard for doing this.. Loaded up Harmony Central and stuff with hype..

Yeah, I agree on the inlays and such.. But at least they are showing their own identity instead of trying to look like clones... And, IIRC, dont they have some kind of satisfaction guarantee?

In many ways they remind me of the new Slick guitars. Those are supposed to be good at low prices. And they are even selling their pickups as if they are upgrades too.. Normally, budget guitars that dont come with brand name pickups, usually need new ones.. At least these come with the best.. SD!!!

And Axl is another that comes to mind.. Supposedly very good guitars for low buck..
