PU Change on a Les Paul, wanna cool down...

but how would an 59n & JBb setup sound like in comparison to a 2x Alnico II Pro one? Will it be suitable for my guitar paired with my amp?

Whats the story about mini-humbuckers, are there any made to fit into normal humbucker spacings? I just love the sound being in between a real humbucker and a SC.

What can you tell me about P-90/4?

Will the Duncans fit straight into my normal Gibson HB spacings?

You're asking to cool down with a JB?

I think the A2pro would be cooler, more in the vintage range. I think they would be warmer than a JB, with spongier bass. Think Slash's tone.

AFAIK, there are no full size mini-humbuckers.

Full size Duncan humbuckers should fit right into the slots. If you want a P-90 flavor, the Phat Cats are a humbucker sized P-90.

Re: PU Change on a Les Paul, wanna cool down...

yeah, that was my issue as well, cooling down with a JB. But actually, maybe cooling down wasnt the right term to use. Its more "get a more versatile tone than with high output ceramics".

I really loved the clean sound sample of the JB and the A2Pro sounded numb (cleanwise) in comparison, then again the JB sounded screechy in dirty mode with a lack of bass (though my amp produces far too much bass anyway, think fender bassman), while the a2pro had a smoother overdrive tone. Whats the output of the JB anyway in comparison to an a2pro and my super ceramics?

Would P90s fit my requirements listed above? Are there any normal size humbuckers having a sound similar to the mini humbuckers?

Those will work fine. If you still want some good drive out of the bridge, but want to clean it up when you turn down, a Custom works very well in a Les Paul.

Are talking about the 'Duncan Custom' or 'Custom Custom'? When I look at the tone chart should I be looking at DC Resestance or Resonate Peak? It looks like the CC is still a pretty hot p/u, but it does use the Alnico II which I've heard is a little more expressive than the V.

*push*, would be cool when my questions at the top of this page would still be answered...

Re: PU Change on a Les Paul, wanna cool down...

In my humble opinion - P90's are awsome p/u's but won't do everything your asking them to do. I think you should grab the offer on the 59/JB p/u as well. I was thinking JB bridge/Jazz neck when I first read your thread, and I still think that would be a nice set up for you - the jazz cleans up very nicely and does crunch/distortion equally well - its one of the more versatile p/u's out there for my money - but if you have a good deal on the 59 - thats a great pup as well. Seems like you have alot of advice, you may need to just go for something now and if you have to its easy enough to change - but in the end your ear has to tell you. Good Luck!
