Re: public service Announcement-Jackson Solist/PAtkst1N

Did you get it in that shop that's closing?

You have a Soloist?

Jerry's got a Soloist! It morphed into that Chet Atkins guitar he's got in his avator now.

Well I guess that's good to know. The PATBStk1 does not just drop in anywhere you'd fit a standard single coil. Some routing may be necessary. Not that I suggest you do that to your Soloist.

The PATBStk1 does fit in 80's Hamer Californians and Chapparals.

Yes, Ive got one of the nice early 90's solosts MIJ.I got the pickup at GuitarHeavean, that shop in Jollysville ,Tenessee thats closeing.
Problem was that , first off, the leads were on the "wrong" side of the pickup- side-low e, and the route is tight so the pickup was sitting on top of the leads running across its length going into the hole to the control cavity.
Then I tried flipping it around, and the problem- that the pickup was too high and could not be lowered down enough- may have just been barely okayb flipped like that , but i still couldnt get the end of the lead out from under the pickup and it was tilted in the SC route.
Basically it was a tight fit in the route, but it did fit lengthwise, it was too high and would hit the strings.its taller than a normal stack pickup i think, but way taller than a cool rails, which is whats going in there now- new style only . A regular strat pickup or the old style cool rails with the flange will not fit. Its got to be ovular with no lip/flange.
Anyway I put a very small chip in the guitar removeing the pickup. :banghead:

Re: public service Announcement-Jackson Solist/PAtkst1N

So the route isn't deep enough to accept the added height of the pickup? I know the routes on some of the Jacksons don't like pickups with traditional lips. Although Latoya Jackson's lips usually fit my Johnson.

The PATB Stack is a super tall pickup. I've had them in Ibanez' in the past and had to route the pickup cavity deeper. The Ibanez routes are for Dimarzio stacks, so they're already deep enough for a "normal" stack.

The dimensions of most or all of our pickups are on the website. As a luthier who can route anything into any guitar, I never really cared. I would just get whatever pickup I wanted and put it into whatever guitar I wanted. But I can see why its helpful to check the dimensions first! Very good public service announcement!

BTW the PATB Stack absolutely smokes. It's worth the route job. It's a total sleeper in the line. I mean, we sell them, but if people knew how juicy they sounded, we'd probably sell more.

Oh gee thanks Sir. Just waht i needed -more mony spent. lol. It will be routed!! Thank you. Nothing is easy in this quest for tone.I believe that pickup will absolutleyl be the best thing, especially paired with the Crazy8 in the bridge!
In the meantime I just picked up a STK-S4. What an amazing great pickup! It'll do service till I get around to modyfying the Jackson for the PATB stack.
