Pulling Evo IIs out of JEM 7VWH - any warnings about the SD combo I am thinking of?

Gear: Modded ADA MP-1 into MESA 20/20 into MESA 2x12 rectocab.

Guitar: '02 JEM 7VWH with Evo IIs

Was going to go Screamin' Demon in the neck and the new Jason Becker pickup in the bridge. Love 80's guitarists tone.

Any warnings about this combo? Any advice on caps and pots? Replacing all electronics. JEMs have 1 volume 1 tone in case anyone didn't know =)

Also - I might as well drop a decent single coil in the middle - any suggestions there that would balance well with the 2 humbuckers?

The combo should be great...

Something wrong with the electronics that you want to replace all of it cause you dont have to.

Do you want a real single coil or a hum canceling single coil?

Thanks for the reply!

Well, the 5 way is loose and sloppy - the stops aren't defined anymore. The pots I just want what's correct for this combo - not sure what they are now so figured I'd go fresh. Don't know the current capacitor value but I can read it when I get home.

I LOVE the Dimarzio HS-3 pickup - a hum canceling stacked single - so maybe something like that from Duncan? Going all Duncan in this guitar.

Looks like the Demon has an SH-12 - so in the neck I want that one right? 2" E to E there and 2 1/16" at the bridge so TB there for the Becker.

isn't that JEM basswood?

maybe some guys have more experience with basswood, but I have a few and find basswood to be a bit of a chore to match up for the 80s tones I want. a JB always works. I have a BKP VHII in a basswood Charvel now and it's working out. I have a AT-1 and a LiquiFire in an EBMM Axis, but it's basswood with a maple top. maybe it's me, but I find it to be a bit of a middle-of-the road drab wood when it comes to tone...but it clearly works for a lot of guys....maybe when I find more pup options for it. ;)

The pots and caps will work for this set up.. just swap the switch.

Why not get the YJM fury middle?

Yeah the normal SH12 is the one you want for the neck... with that set up you would be gold

The 7VWH is alder with an ebony board, at least the '02 is!

Cool, I'll check out the Fury.

Thanks for the replies!

The JEM7VW is Alder with either an ebony (early models) or Rosewood.

What are not getting out of the pickups now? Are you just wanting to try something new?

ah! alder! very good then.

the PB is going to be a little even in the mids and a little bit more rounded on the top than you'd expect from an A5.

if you could clarify what you're looking for, that would help. more of this or less of that. better yet, what sound or voice are you going for? and what type of rig are you running?

it's already throwing darts at a dartboard, so it helps to have clear vision of the target.

rig is listed in the first post

On a practical level, you may find that the portion of the humbucker routs that accepts the elevator screw lugs may require enlarging.

Many DiMarzio humbuckers have a stubby, almost triangular lug. Duncan humbuckers tend to use the traditional Gibson outline.
