Pup Combination

Hello all,
I have a project I am working on. It's a Jackson DK2L H-S-S pick up configuration. I am wanting to put a Nazgul in the bridge, but I'm not sure what pup's to run in the middle and neck spots.
I was thinking of running Hot Stacks as they like the Nazgul are ceramic, But not sure. Anyone one try this combo or anyone else have a better idea?

Re: Pup Combination

Hot stacks, hot rails or maybe Quarter Pounders.

+1 on QPs. They're big yet still pretty crisp & singlecoily. Great companion for humbuckers, though my experience has been pairing them with PAFs & T-tops, less powerful creatures than the Nazgul. Another possibility would be Strat-sized P90 types, like the VintageVibe SP90 or HarmonicDesign Super90.

Re: Pup Combination

I think I'm gonna run with the Hot Stacks. I thought about the QP's but not thrilled about the exposed boppins. Thanks for the input !

Re: Pup Combination

What are you going to play with it?

What amp/fx?

How do you like to use the neck/middle on such a guitar?

Re: Pup Combination

I play mainly metal, but that being said I don't need it to be a jack of all trades so to speak. I have 19 other guitars I can use for other types of music.
only time I use the neck and middle pup is when I play without distortion. I am mostly on the bridge pup about 80% of the time.
My amps are
Ampeg VL1001 100 watt head with 6550's
Ampeg V4 4x12 cab
Carvin V3 100 watt with EL34's
First gen Peavey 5150 4x12 cab
Back Alley Dirty Bomb 20watt with EL84's
VHT 2x12 cab and a Randell 2x12 cab.
I have a full array of pedals but I rarely use effects.

Re: Pup Combination

Yeah, I stand by my suggestions- you will have one terrifying metal machine.

Re: Pup Combination

If you rarely use the middle and neck pickups and when you do, you use them without distortion, why not get some lower output pickups for cleans? (They may also give you some good texture when using distortion and blended with the bridge.) Maybe the Cool Rails?

To be honest. I never even gave the lower output single coil pick ups a thought. The guitar came stock with STK-1's in the neck and middle and a JB in the bridge. I bought the body off Ebay, so those are long gone.
