Pup Configurations for HH or HSH Strats?

Hey guys.

I'm currently thinking about building a new Pickguard for my 70's Strat (Browcaster). It currently has a JB Jr, Quarter Pound and a Lil 59 in it.

I'm thinking about building a HH pickguard with either a JB/Jazz or a CC/A2P configuration. I'm currently leaning more towards the JB/Jazz combo as the A2P in the neck is too similar to the other Vintage Spec pups I have in other guitars.

Also, if I decided to go HSH instead, what would be a good single coil to go in-between the JB and the Jazz?

Thanx for any opinions.

I forgot to mention above that the guitar is made out of slabs of Mahogany and Ash, and has a maple neck and fingerboard. Just incase it helps matters :)

well, picking up your cue that you want to stay away from 'vintage' tones that you have in other axes, i'd say you'd probably love a hot rails ... no question :D

I've always thought a pair of 59's sounded great in a Strat. So maybe a pair of 59's and a Little 59 in the middle? Lew

Thanx for the suggestions guys.

I've tried the Hot Rails both in the bridge and neck before, and while it was a good sound, I like something with a bit more Treble to it. Hence the original reason I went for the JB Jr and now a full size JB :)

Lew, I've only ever tried 59's in my Gibby LP and I found them to be quite boomy sounding. Altho the Ash in my Strat and the maple/maple neck may help to even things out.

My other guitars have Seths and Screamin Demon's in the bridge, hence I was going to go for the JB for something a little hotter :)

Thanx for your opinions guys :)

If I were you, I'd try to mix pickups that are voiced quite differently. For instance, in my HH ash Strat I have an Air Zone at the bridge (fat and warm sound), and a Q-tuner at the neck (very clean, like clear water, and very tight sounding). With a 3-way switch I get three very diverse sounds: neck sound for clean rythm, bridge for dirty solos and the middle position for dirty rythm (it has some of the Air Zone's crunchy mids mixed with the Q-tuner's transparency).

Would you class a JB/Jazz combo as being pickups that are voiced differently?

I think you're gonna like the JB/Jazz combo. I had it in my Jackson for awhile (alder w/maple neck). It was HSH, so I never got to hear them together. I think in general, it's a combo made for each other. I don't have any suggestions for the middle single coil, but would like to hear some.

Thanx for the posts guys.

I think I'm going to go for a JB/Jazz setup with 250k pots )

I've got a 59 lying around for the neck if I don't like the Jazz :)

Thanx for the help guys.

Yup :D

I'm going to try my friends Dean HSS Strat, that I put a JB in, and make sure I like it and then see how I go from there :)

Thanx for all the info guys :)
