Pup confusion

Hello,
I am new to this forum. I am hoping to find answers to my pick up upgrades. I have an American made strat. At present it has the stock single coils in it, although the body is routed for a hum-sing-hum configuration if desired.
I play through a peavey Triple X 2-12 combo.
My group does stuff from country to metal. I am the lead guitarist.
For my clean sound I use my EQ pedal as a preamp/volume boost for the tome and dynamics.( if that helps describe the idea of what I am looking for) When overdriven, I have to use the neck pup for soloing because the bridge pup sounds thin and shrill to me. And my crunch rhythm is nonexistent. I would appreciate any help and ideas.

Thanks Frank

Re: Pup confusion

frank,
welcome

your probably going to get a few different answers on this one! :)

my favorite strat has APS 2s neck & mid/ SSL-3 "Hot" bridge.
any of the hotter strat pickups - SSL-3, Custom SSL-5 and 6, and Quarter Pounder, will overcome that weak bridge problem

however, for the Metal part of that equation, I'm not sure you don't want a hum-cancelling model, and others are more qualified to comment on that

Re: Pup confusion

do you want to put a humbucker in there or would you like to stay with an sss configuration?

If i were doing metal i would have a humbucker of some kind in the bridge position (able to be split) If you want a great old strat sound, get a set of ssl1's.

If you want a humbucker in the bridge and you want singles in middle and neck. 59 trembucker could be put in the bridge and ssl1's in the middle and neck.

If you really want something crazy i think 2 pearly gates on a 5 way switch would be very cool. both could be split so you can have comvincing single coil tones and have great PAF humbucker sounds when you need them. I think i read your post right that you use a few boxes and amp for your distortion so that shouldn't be an issue

Re: Pup confusion

Get a Duncan Twangbanger for the bridge pickup. No more thin, weak, icepick tone from the bridge pickup. AWESOME!!! Lew
