Pup set for Electric Guitar

I'm looking for a set of pickups for a guitar I plan to build. I need versatility. I am not spending more than $160 total for the pups. I don't want humming noise. I want high output preferably. I want something that can handle heavy metal level distortion, both rhythm playing and lead/solo stuff (I'm thinking evanescence and linkin park type guitar, I NEED to be able to play in drop D tuning with heavy gauge strings) I also want to be able to play clean/jazzy type stuff, probably some bluesey tones as well. Probably going to be playing a good bit of alternative rock if that helps. I am leaning towards passive pickups but I am open to the possibility of active. Walnut body, maple neck. Trem bridge probably and graphite nut. Thanks for your help. I had two humbuckers in my head, but they're might be other possibilities.

Re: Pup set for Electric Guitar

The Nazgul & Sentient set seems right up your alley. Also, don't underestimate some pickups in the more "vintage" output range. They will handle all the gain you can throw at them yet still provide great clarity; the 59' is a good example. Also, in a walnut body, a Seymour Duncan "Custom" will cover a lot of sonic ground with great grind but also does lower gain rock extremely well. Pair it with the Jazz neck and you can do all of the things you asked for in your original post.

A4-modded '59n, A8-modded Custom.

Your can play literally anything with this combo. I've used it for over five years on my #1, so
I know what I'm talking about.

HTH,

+1 to this. Or if you want the Custom in the bridge to just be able to go over the top, put a double thick ceramic in instead of the A8 (which is still a phenomenal pickup).

Re: Pup set for Electric Guitar

Black winter set will do better than nazgul for the versatility you need. I'd highly recommend it.

Re: Pup set for Electric Guitar

You are describing active pickups to a T. Finding them used should get you within your budget.
