Pups for a PRS SE santana?

Re: Pups for a PRS SE santana?

Yeah, i'm not going to bother with any of it. I'm happy enough with it. It's actually pretty nice clean, just not as clear/articulate as i'd like. But perfectly acceptable, so i'm leaving it as is. If ever i owned a guitar i can leave stock and be ecstatic with it, this is it. Sometimes we get so anal about things we end up making them worse, so i'm done.

Not a bad decision at all, I really like those SE245/Santana pups myself...I had a Fredrik Akesson with those pups in it and never considered swapping them out for a minute!

Re: Pups for a PRS SE santana?

I am in the process of installing SH-PG1n (Pearly Gates) in the neck and TM-PG1b in the bridge of my SE Santana. I also am putting them in Triple Shot Mounting Rings and running them into a Liberator volume control. I think the Pearly Gates will give this mellow, muddy sounding axe a new life.

Re: Pups for a PRS SE santana?

But of the many duncans i have tried, none were satisfactory. They seem to all have something tonally in common i don't care for but can't put my finger on. Maybe seymour voices them all and his ear is very different than mine in what he wabnts to hear, i dunno.

If this is the case, why are you on the Seymour Duncan Forum asking advice about pickup choices? We all obviously disagree with your ears.

Re: Pups for a PRS SE santana?

Not all Alnico 5 magnets are identical. There will be slight variations in the material itself, then there the finishing (or lack of it) and the magnetising. Plenty of opportunity for inconsistency.

I currently own three PRS SE guitars and have worked on a few others. I have never yet liked the stock pickups. That's just me.

For the Santana, I would try LtKojak's usual recommendation of A4 for the neck position.
