Pup's for Petey?!

i just put a 59n and CCb combo in my PT yesterday...(alder/maple, one tone/one volume) and so far i REALLY DIG the CC but the jury is still out on the 59...(i know it's a little early to tell but these are my initial impressions)when i eq the CC in it's sweet spot the 59 is way to "woofy" and in the middle position the CC really doesn't sound good mixed with the 59?! of course maybe it's my amp (blues jr with stock speaker), maybe a speaker change that handles bass a little better would clean up the sound a bit?

i'm wondering if maybe a Pearly Gates or Jazz neck would sound better with it!?

any ideas, suggestions!?

thanks in advance,
mike

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

hmm ... assuming you tweeked the 59 for pup height and pole piece height ... if not, try that and see ....

another cool choice could be an AIIP for the neck ... not quite sure what kinda neck tone you are going for ...

good luck

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

I had the same problem when I had the 59n paired with a PGb in my LP. The PGn solved that in a big way.

A cheaper, and still very, very tasty solution would be a magnet swap.

Throw an alnico II magnet in the 59. It will get creamier, thicker, and will get rid of the boomyness for sure.

the a2p was my favorite neck tone ever in my old Moore, but i'm not sure how it would sound in this guitar...totally different beasts!?

the tone i want is tough to describe...i want smooth/buttery tones without being too muddy...i know...doesn't everyone...lol?!

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

is petey mahogany? .. my AIIP is in a solid mahogany brian moore and i am tellin you it really is special ... does the warm fat thing without every flubbing out in the bottom .. i am likin the idea of you just swappin an A2 into the 59 to see what it does

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

i think a pearly gates would work out very well. a swap to an alnico II in the 59 would probably work well also

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

it's alder with a maple/maple neck...i know that an A2p is divine in mahogany i wish Petey was mahogany!

the mag swap is starting to intrigue me a bit...hmmm!?

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

The PG is the what you need. I replaced a 59 with a PG for that very reason and it has worked out great.

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

is swapping out the magnets hard...i've never looked into it before?!

somebody give me the breakdown!? :fingersx:

Re: Pup's for Petey?!

I like the AIIP in my poplar Parker.

My opinion of the CC changes from day to day. I have to do alot of tweaking to get it like I want it. It's a bit brighter than I prefer.

Loosen the four small screws on the bottom of the baseplate, raise the polepieces a bit, unwrap a part of the coil tape to expose mag. Now, pry the coils up gently and using a pair of needle nose pliers, pull out the mag.

Insert new mag tighten the screws and re-wrap the tape and you're done..
