PUPs in Standard Mexican Strats?

Re: PUPs in Standard Mexican Strats?

Standard single coils with bottom loaded ceramic mags and steel polepieces. They're a bit hotter than a vintage style single, but they sound OK to me, especially the neck and mid.

Re: PUPs in Standard Mexican Strats?

Yeah I'm not opposed to the neck and middle either. It has potential. I'm still thinking about what I want. I'm not big on the bridge PUP - a bit thin. Part of my problem is I've only gotten to play this guitar through my small practice amp and not the big rig. I still think I'm going to replace the bridge pickup with something with more mids.

It's all good fun. When I get my neck worked over and replace the nut with graphite, and a new bridge PUP, this guitar will be in good shape.

$350 (Mex Strat) + $55 (nut, peak and polish) + $100 (PUP - install)

Not a bad upgrade.

Re: PUPs in Standard Mexican Strats?

If you don't want to spend the cash on a new bridge pickup right away, just wire the bottom tone knob so that it only works on the bridge pickup. This will give you master volume, neck tone and bridge tone, letting you control the treble output of your bridge pickup and giving you brighter, quackier sounds in pos. 2&4.

I do it to all strats with passive pickups.

Hmmm... that sounds like a good idea. Being able to cut the treble could be the answer for the bridge. I'll try that first.

Thanks man

Re: PUPs in Standard Mexican Strats?

No probs.

It's a free mod too. Just move one wire over to the next lug on the switch and you're set. :burnout:

Re: PUPs in Standard Mexican Strats?

I actually prefer the Mexican Standard single-coils vs. the American Standards. I know I'm not the only one.
