Pups too close to work without problems?

Hi,
There was a fairly long thread a while back about 2 strat pickups being close enough to almost touch, and what would this do to the sound if used separately, and would this harm the magnets. No special wiring, just two standard strat pups ( 6.5) side by side in a humbucker route? I know they can physically fit on my universal route.
The reason I ask is too long and boring, so does anyone at this point have an answer to the question?
Thank you,
Steve J Buffington

Maybe everyone is asleep. Here in Aus its light, but there aren't many of us from this timezone on the forum overall.

As to the pickups.....I'm thinking the magnetic fields could interfere. You could also have pickguard/pickup ring issues as strat pickups are fractionally longer than humbucker coils....it all depends on the ring or the pickguard cut.

We have a customer who has this old Valley Art strat, we installed two SD pickups next to each other, one of our old buddies made the wiring work too.
It works, how it sounds is a personal view though.

Steve, a StagMag is essentially two strat p'ups put together on a HB baseplate.

No magnets are harmed in the making of this p'up. ;)

No harm would come to the magnets. As Pepe reminded, the StagMag is essentially what you are asking about. Also P-90 pups have two mags that are very close together with no ill effects.

Sound is certainly subjective, but as to what this would do to the sound of each pup played separately...? I think that the additional magnetic field from the inactive pup would have a slight affect on tone, but probably not noticeable. However, it may also contribute to some loss of that typical single coil hum.

This would be a good question to put to Frank Falbo.

In a thread about the P-Rails pickup, Frank explained what influence the magnet beneath the P90 coil has on the magnetic flux field around the Rail coil.

Perhaps, somebody can unearth that thread.
