Push-Pull Pot on Tone not Vol

Hey all - I'm about to fit Triple Shots, SH1s and push-pull pots to my Les Paul using this wiring schematic

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2ts_2v_2t_phsp

however, I want to shift the push-pulls from the volume pots to the tone pots (less chance of user error during playing :big laugh:)

I've searched all around, and know this is possible, but I haven't found a simple wiring diagram for which connection needs to go where - the closest I've found is the 50's wiring, but it's not specific to push-pulls.

Thought I'd ask if anyone has a simple primer of how to rejig a volume-tone pair from the schematic above and with the push-pull reversed.

Many thanks,

Vince

Even though the push/pull switches are mechanically connected to the pots, they are electrically independant. Therefore, just use the push/pulls as your tone pots and wire them exactly as they are in the diagram. They will just be mechanically on the tone pots, but electrically wired as in your diagram. Make sense?

I think so - essentially, the pickups will be wired directly to the push-pull lugs, and then the push pull wired back to the volume pot, which then connects out to the tone pot lugs per the diagram?

Thanks so much for speedy response!

That is a super easy change to make. There are no wiring changes at all. The switches are simply located below the tone pots instead of the volume pots.

Not in the sense of a schematic, but the wiring diagram will look significantly different and will almost certainly require cutting new lengths of wire for the increased distance between the pot and DPDT.

In my experience i found push/pulls very hard to work with. I really just dont use them at all now

You're not alone; Warmoth has switched to a push-push design for their DPDT pots. You pretty much have to have knurled metal set-screw knobs to get the grip you need to pull a push-pull up (though of course that's perfectly possible depending on your axe).

Re: Push-Pull Pot on Tone not Vol

Well, the mods are done and everything's working fine. The push-pulls are fiddly all right, but by putting them on The tone pots rather than the volume, there was a little more space to work with (as the switch wires didn't impede).

Spent a little while playing to get a handle on sounds, etc. and I have to say that the Triple Shots on their own are pretty amazing, with the phase and series/parallel options for the middle switch setting, I've got just about everything I need tonally in one guitar- which was just what I wanted!

On the push-pulls being difficult to handle, I don't get that reaction on first play - but give me a few weeks before I get definitive - push-push does seem a more streamlined use-case,though it's harder to glance down and get status (unless there are LEDs involved :)

Thanks for all who helped me get this job done - I'm a very happy boy right now.
