push/pull - single volume/master volume

First of all, I haven't been here in a little while -- mainly because I am happy with the pickups and wiring setups in all my guitars, which is a good thing. But also because I've been sucked into building my own stompboxes. (If anybody wants to take a long vacation with your soldering iron I recommend Build Your Own Clone ). But it's good to be back here, and I'm hoping some of you wiring geniuses can help me out. I have some interesting ideas that I can't quite figure out myself.

I have a guitar with 2 p90s, two volumes, a master tone and a standard Gibson style 3-way selector switch. I spend a lot of time in the middle position and I really want to add a master volume to the mix, but I don't want to sacrifice individual control of the pickups volume. (I have a phase switch and really like the way you can manipulate that sound with the individual volume controls.)

I see two options:

1) Push/Pull Master Volume.
When down, the vol/vol/tone setup functions the same, but when up, the bridge volume control functions as a master volume, while the neck volume remains independent. This was my first idea, but I just thought of another one while I was writing this all down:

2) Master Volume + Blend Pot
This option would eliminate the need for a push pull, and would retain the individual level control for each of the pickups (to a degree).

Which option would you choose? How might I wire each option?

Thanks for your input.

How about a volume pedal? Quick and dirty that way.

But for option 1:

Put the pickups on the center tabs of the push/pull switch (one on each side) and connect the tabs closest to the pot casing to the outer tab of that pot.
Connect the switch tabs furthest away from the casing to the individual volume pot tabs.

This way, when the switch is down (tabs furthest away), each pickup is running to its own pot. When the switch is up (closest to), both pickups are connected to the one pot.

For option 2, you might need a mini-toggle to select whether the pickup is going to the blend or the other volume.

My volume pedal is an integral part of my setup already. I use it for swells and atmospheric stuff, and I want to be able to set a rolled back guitar volume easily.

This idea could work. I'll have to take a look at it. Thanks
