Put a JBA2 in my Santana SE Standard today

I had the JBA2 in my PRS SE Tremonti and for some reason it sounded kinda weak and thin. My SE Santana Standard had a Custom 5 in it, but it sounded too bassy. I replaced the JBA2 in the Tremonti with a DiMarzio AT-1 which was a big improvement and then tried the JBA2 in my Santana. Wow, what a difference putting the JBA2 in the Santana made. It didn't sound thin and weak anymore. Sounded big, full and aggressive.

It's just funny how a pickup can sound so different in two somewhat similar guitars.

I wonder what could have caused that. Yep I agree, the guitar makes a big difference. The JB2 is great. Mine is a JB4 with A2 spacers.

I have always thought the JB-A2 sounded better in mahogany. The A5-JB does better in alder.

The PRS SE Tremonti I had it in originally is a mahogany body/neck also. The big difference with it and the Santana is that the Tremonti has a maple top and a 25" scale vs the all mahogany body and 24.5" scale of the Santana. Still shocked at the difference. I played it a lot last night and it sounds huge and ballsy. For some reason it didn't sound quite that way in the Tremonti. Odd, but I'm happy I tried it in the Santana. I was debating on putting it or a Tone Zone in the Santana, but I think the JBA2 will stay.
