Hi all,

I am putting together my first guitar and I was looking for pick up and wiring advice. I currently own a Musicman Axis and a S-S-H strat. The strat has Texas Special sc's and a pearly gates bridge.. I like to play SRV, Hendrix and VH mostly.

In putting this guitar together I am try to combine the SRV neck tones and "brown sound" bridge tones of my current guitars. It will have an ash VW body and maple neck. Floyd rose trem and S-S-H config.

The combos I currently looking into are:
SC's - Texas Hot or Surfer (Neck and Middle)
HB - Jazz, '59, or Blues Saraceno Model

I'm leaning towards the texas Hots and '59 combo, but would really appreciate any opinions.

I haven't ordered anything yet, so If I should be looking and different body materials let me know. I really like the VW body and I need the floyd.

I also need to know what pots are correct to use for the Vol and Tone. (250k tone, 500k vol?)

Thanks so much ion advance for any advise.

i found the very best thing is to listen to the sound clips. Then do some forum searches, which dredge up alot of reviews and such. Also, it is best to ask only one clear question per post...

I can't help on your questions but can bump...

out of what you mentioned, I'd say the Blues for the bridge and the texas hots. That would sound bitchin.

Ditto the Blues Trembucker in the bridge, along with the Texas Hots in the neck and mid, or if you preffer, a pair of APS-2's in the neck and mid for a slightly thicker, meatier sound.

i think the texas hots and the blues would be a killer combo. the blues on a floyd loaded axe is a great fit, almost like they were made for eachother :)

Sounds like a winner to me!

On the earlies albums VH used an A2 mag pup, FYI, so if the blues doesn't sound quite like what you are looking for I'd look into the A2 PAF style pups, the CC, or 78 model.

Also WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

the cc is more of the later vh sound, more compressed and hotter. my favorite tones are vh II and wacf and thats more of the '78 type tone. with the right rig, the blues will work just fine for that style.

Thanks all for the quick replies. Sounds like the Texas Hots and Blues is gunna be a good combo. I appreciate the advise.
