Q: The smart way to sell a case?

I've got some nice guitar cases, both electric and acoustic from Gibson and Martin... They're in great, "new" condition... I don't gig and if I do leave the house with a guitar its in a special SKB travel case.

What's the best way to sell them? What's the going rate?

Last time I sold a case here I didn't make any money off the sale. The price of the case was spent on shipping it.

Is there a smart way to unload some nice cases and still make some dough on my end?

Thanks!

Sell them for $30-$40 + actual shipping? UPS and USPS offer rate calculators, and don't forget to measure the box, because you could get nailed for dimensional rates. A bathroom scale is sufficient to get the actual weight - just add another pound to be on the safe side. Weigh yourself, then weigh yourself with the boxed case and subtract the difference. It's tough to sell cases by themselves, most people can get them new with free shipping from online dealers.

I'd be interested in this too...

I have a couple nice hard cases with nowhere to go. I'd get an offer of $50 only to spend $40 on shipping.

I've only had luck selling cases on craigslist. Usually you can't make enough to have any thing left after shipping. Accessories are always a hard sell because of the shipping cost. I have a bunch of stuff where the shipping would cost a lot more than what I could get for it. At that point I save money by not selling it.

Yeah, those cases are worth a fair bit new so if you sell them locally you should make some decent cash.
Lets face it, paying $80 for a nice used Gibson case is a good deal even if its for keeping an Epiphone in. Everyone wins.
