Quality 12AY7 tubes?

I don't have the most experience with these tubes, but I want to try one as a PI to lower the preamp volume and silence the noise in my 6505+. I have a JJ 12AT7/ECC81 in there now and really like what it's doing, I just want more of it! I have a GT 12AY7 that sounds horrible and would never rely on it, but are the New Sensor 12AY7s quality? Or are the GTs re-labeled reflektor tubes? I'm basically looking for a tube with about half the mu of a regular 12AX7. Something like 50ish. Thanks in advance.

try a 5751. i love what it did for my peavey delta blues. i got a Jan-phillips.

I think a 12AU7 (or a 5814A) in the PI slot would suit you better. The 12AY7 really rocks in those amps in the V1 position; the cleans clean up really nice and the crunch and high gain channels get very dynamic. LOADS of attack.

***edit...the only 12AY7s I have any experience with are NOS JAN stock.

I have a JAN GE 5751 in v1 right now. It's funny, I ordered it because they are supposed to be around 70 mu and the one I have is at 95!

Now glassman, the 12AY7s you're talking about are NOS or new production. Who makes/made them?

We have had good luck with any of the JAN Y7's. Believe it or not, we also had good results with EH AY's, and those "knock off" NOS Y7's from National are great when available.

also think about 12au7's. ive got a sylvania 12au7 in v1, the jan-phillips 5751 in v2 and sovtek 12ax7lps in v3. this is a sweet combo if you aren't into high gain. very sparkly and detailed overdrive.

How are you measuring that?

NOS, JAN stock made by GE.

I have no experience at all with modern 12AY7s but it sounds as though I need to check them out.
