Quality EQ pedal?

i remember a thread not too long ago about someone looking for a quality low noise EQ pedal.... I get the sound i'm looking for out of a stock Boss GE-7 but the added noise is a pain

any ideas besides modding the heck out of a BOSS pedal? Anyone making a high quality EQ for guitar

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

My GE-7 is the only pedal I have (& i rely heavily on my pedals) that is pretty much always on. It is a GE-7 modded to Sniper specs by tonejam. I believe it would cost you $50. My tone would honestly not be what it is without it.

If you want to burn money on a whole new unit, I've heard good things about the MXR eq, I think....

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

I use the Boss EQ-20. I don't have any noise issues with it, but I keep the parameters pretty subtle. Also, this has a memory bank of 9 different EQ patches, which can be accessed without messing with the sliders. I don't use the patches much, since I like messing with the sliders. I just wanted to have a good 10-band EQ.

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

Y'know? I used a GE-7 as my one-and-only boost/overdrive pedal into 2203/2204 Marshalls for years, and I don't get the "noisy" thing. I just didn't hear it. I had the common sense to turn it off when the song was over, but I don't recall it being noisy even so.

If you really have to have it cleaned up, Monty Allums sells a kit with all the parts in it, including the good op amps. Couldn't be easier.

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

anything other than boss or danelectro, really

I think i'm gonna take a vow to never buy another boss pedal

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

Can't go wrong with the GE7 or the MXR 10 band. They're both as reliable as a tank and do exactly what they're supposed to do. Like Rich_S, I haven't got any of the noise complains that so many people mumble about.

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

I've got both the MXR and Boss eq pedals. I like the MXR more. Its more flexible and quieter, IMO. Be aware tho, the MXR does not have a battery option and runs on 18v.

If you're on a budget, the Boss eq will still do the trick. I did get some noise from my Boss but only for the short while when it was activated.

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

mod your ge-7 with monteallums.com mod and you can max it out totally with no noise, no joke. I was floored by it.

Re: Quality EQ pedal?

i may try a modded GE7... someone mentioned to me that maybe the GE-7 is boosting the noise and hiss levels my DS1 puts out... maybe the trouble is my cheap DS1.. not sure...

You guys must be among the lucky few. I have noise problems with my stock Boss GE-7 as well. It happens as soon as you move any of the frequency sliders out of the "0" position in either direction. Apparently, that is what engages the pedal.
