Looking at a semi-hollow Strat body somewhere down the line. For those with a lot of experience and a good ear for a piece of tone-wood, how do you rate Warmoth's wood?

I've had very good luck with Warmoth wood over the last 20 years. Never did the hollow strat, so I can't comment on that particular one, but I have done several solid strats and teles from them.
I know you're asking specifically about Warmoth, but I must add the chamebred mahogany tele body I got from USACG is by far the best I've encountered. Beautiful wood ( if you consider mahogany to be beautiful...I do! ) and incredible tone.

Tonally I find the wood to be about what you'd expect from Gibson, PRS, or Fender USA with maybe even a little more consistency. What bugs me is that you have to pay extra for a really nicely figured top or uniformly grained rosewood.

well now i can 100% say that the wood is better than Fender USA wood. i just stripped down a poly finished 2000 or 2001 fender USA made strat body so i could re-paint it and the damn thing is 5pc alder with a thin veneer on the front and back to hide the shoddy glue joints b/t the 5 humks of wood used to make up the body. there is one glue joint that was under the veneer that i could literally slide a thin pick in the gap b/t the wood in one area.
so to sum it up...warmoth, musikraft and UASCG wood and quality blows away average fender USA stuff since those places use 1-2pc bodies not freakin' 5 with a venner on front and back like fender does on some USA made strats. i'd hate to see how many chunks of wood make up a mexican made strat body if this USA one was 5 lol. i'm quite pissed about this 5pc USA strat body and won't even bother using it now.

Damn, Mike. I hope that was a "Friday Made" body. Mine is a 3 piece body, I know that for sure. The joint lines have started to get visible on the back, which I've heard is a fairly common thing for Fenders to do.
I like Warmoth's woods a lot. Good cuts, nicely sanded and ready for finish. Prices aren't bad either. Haven't tried USACG. My Tele body is going to probably come from Dave. Can't wait to get that started.

Erik, you don't know how pissed i was when i saw that. 5pc USA made body i mean WTF i might as well bought a damn MIM body. oh well now i know for builds i will only use musikraft and warmoth! all the bodies i buy from them are 1pc or 2pc max. i even feel like i'm cheaping out when i go 2pc but oh well. unless something really grabs me from fender i'll stick with aftermarket. i do know to never bother stripping one again lol. you don't want to know what's under there hahaha.

It doesn't matter how many joints there are on the body, as long as the pieces of wood are good.
As for my Mexican Strat, it's a vintage burst so I can see the seams. It's a 3-piece.

My Warmoth body is still unpainted (I have got to get around to that). two piece mahogany... I told them I'd be solid finishing it so the attractiveness of the grain wasn't an important factor. Even still, it's as attractive as any slab of mahogany I've seen on most Gibson SGs. It's a nice hunk of wood. If only I could teel you how good it was from a tonal perspective...
Mike, that sucks about that MIA body. If it makes you feel any better, the Ibanez RG170 (my first guitar) that I rebuilt is an 8 piece body.

That's why all the sunburst finished Strats are dark on the belly cut. They used to be bursted on the back in the old days.
Funny thing is, it looks like the Highway series Strats & Teles have better wood & body construction. Is that true?
The guys at Willie's guitars say that's why they like the Relic series, not for the phoney wear, but for the wood.

I was disappointed with my semi-hollow Korina Tele body from Warmoth. No tone, no sustain at all. I'm thrilled with my flamed solid Mahogany body from USA Custom guitars, though!
Tommy really scored two beautiful pieces of Mahogany and glued 'em up awfully pretty. Moderate flame at no extra charge!
