Quarter pound vs. Hot for Tele + middle pickup...

I have ordered a korina Tele body and a maple with rosewood neck from Warmoth and I'm planning either a quarter pound set or a Hot for Tele set. I'm leaning towards the HFT since it has more mids, but what are your thoughts between the 2? Do you guys prefer one over the other for reasons I maybe haven't thought of? I'm only going by on line demos, which I know is a crap shoot, but I listened to tons of clips from several winders including several boutiques and to me it comes down to one of these 2 sets.

Also, I'm thinking about a middle pickup with strat style wiring and wonder if you guys have a recommendations. I want either a Strat middle pickup or another Tele neck pickup for the middle and have no clue about middle pickups so any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

Here is the actual body.

I will be doing a true-oil finish to match my hotrod Korina, this was my first build about 3 years ago and I'm building her sister.

i like both in the bridge, dont care for either in the neck but im not a tele neck pup guy. if it was me id put a firebird style pup in the neck.

I like the Hot for Tele set better, as it actually sounds more like a humbicker and less like a P90 or a really hot single to me. Either are good choices, but it just depends on the sound you are going for, which you hadn't said. For the middle, go with a Strat pickup. I'd go for a more vintage one, like an SSL-2.

I've never played single coils so this is a whole new venture for me. I have always played hard rock and metal and now I'm looking for good clean and cleanish sounds for blues and stuff, but still have the ability to rock out if I want. Actually the bridge is the main reason for deciding on one of these sets. If you don't like either of the neck pickups do you have any recommendation for a neck pickup? I want to stick with a Tele neck, that's one of the main reasons for building this guitar is for that Tele neck pickup sound and with a middle pickup I figure that will kill my strat GAS by giving me positions 2 and 4.

Thanks for middle suggestion.

either set will do.

may i make a suggestion though.

try a 500k tone and volume with a treble bleed on the volume and a .02 tone cap. i hated my harmonic design vintage plus pickups until i changed the electronics.
now, i get the extra midrange and bass with the vol. on 10, and a brighter, thinner, more tele like tone (that interacts well with the tone pot) when i turn down.

i was surprised by the variety of tones that became available. i now use my overdrive channel and no pedals to get the on the edgeof/slight break up.

Actually I like the Hot for Tele neck just fine. I think it would sound good.

Thank you guys for the advise, I went with the Hot for Tele set and the SSL-2 for the middle. The guitar turned out great! I went simple on the wiring, standard Strat wiring with a push/push on the tone pot for Tele neck & bridge no matter what position the 5-way is in...500k pots with .022 vitamin Q tone cap. I couldn't be happier..

Wow, that looks amazing! I am loving the finish on the body. Can we hear how those pickups sound?

I'm working on it, but I'm not really set up to record. I'll bump this thread with a clip as soon as I get one I'm happy with.
