Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

greetings & help? just bought a used set of SPB-3 "Quarter Pounders" for my 1974 Fender P-Bass,, is there a curtain way these must be placed in the bass?? is there a E A pick-up and a D G pick-up or doesn't it matter? one pick-up does have a little white sticker with the model number on it witch reads: IPA11 SPB-3 0383,, the covers were loose, so the one cover that has the BASSLINES written on it can be put on either pick-up,, both covers are not on the pick-ups,, no big deal there.
please help and I thank you!

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

The one with the long lead attached to it is the one that should be under the D & G strings...

Enjoy the QP - I have one in my P-bass, and it is awesome.

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

Welcome to the forum.

The easiest installation sequence is
1) Coil with two black conductor wires under E and A strings.
2) Arrange both black conductors where they will not come into contact with the height adjustment screws.
3) Coil with one white conductor under D and G strings.

The pad printed logo is intended to look correct on the D/G coil of a right-handed instrument. If you are left-handed, it might look less dorky on the E/A coil.

Don't mind me... *staggers off in search of more caffeine*

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

Let us know how it works out for you. The QP can be quite the handful.

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

I've had the QP on my '76 P for years: Love it.

For the purists, I still have the original pickups, in case my heirs are purists too..

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

I thank all of you,, got the Quarter Pounder's installed in my old bass,,, all seems fine,, much more tone than stock, (yes! dg27 I saved ALL original pick-ups & parts!)..
I bought this bass new in 1974 with a Bassman 100 head & cab,, played the crap out of it and put into retirement about 9 years ago,, served me well! my love for the Fender Precision Bass never has stopped,, I own 4 now including my 74,, 2 P-Basses I have installed EMG's which work really well for live stuff,, I play out a lot!
I have not yet played my 74 though my stage rig yet,, Saturday will be the night,, but all works fine! Thanks again!

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

For a passive bass pickup, it's pretty hot, and the QP poles make it a little more sensitive.

Same goes for QP Js. Still sound awesome, though.

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

yeah ,, been sitting here playing though my little GK practice foe quite awhile, them QP's are working well,, good to play this old bass again,, needs new frets! can't wait to plug it in to my big amp!

I have the QP for J in my Squier and I find that that bass is among my very best for overall tone and, especially, flexibility.

I have no idea what the technical differences between the QP P & J and the Hot Stacks are, but I have the Hot Stack J & P in my Jazz Bass Special and that can't touch my Precision or Squier Jazz for tone. (Probably a variety of factors at play.)

Re: Quarter Pounder for P-Bass

*Nods* I built a J with QPs, but couldn't gel with the body. Sold it to a friend, and he loves it.
