Quarter Pounder in white, or cream?

Re: Quarter Pounder in white, or cream?

Is the black cover removable? Could you then widen the holes in a white or cream cover to make it work?

Er, I think the top plate of a QP is the same size as the top of a regular pickup cover. Just checked - there's no way the top of a QP bobbin is going to fit.

Personally, I just have a black pickup cover on the neck pup and the middle pup cover matching the parchment pickguard so it sort of disappears.

Blackrose is right. There is no cover for the QP. What you're thinking of as a cover is the top of the bobbin itself.

Like the Telecaster bridge pickup: no cover.

OK, I will go for black, since the Quarter Pounder appears to be like the Ford Model T. And I guess I will switch to black knobs and black trem arm to match.

You didn't say what your Quarter Pound application was, but I highly recommend getting a tapped QP. The added versatility is great. I've got a master volume, master tone, dial-a-tap in my MIM Strat and it's a sweet setup.

Yes, I was thinking of using two of these tapped with a five way mega switch in a two pickup Blackmore strat that originally came with the Lace gold Sensors. Should give lots of sound options out of only two pickups with the tapped Quarter Pounders and the five way mega switch.

You wouldn't need a mega switch. A regular 5 way will work beautifully. That's what I use in my Tele with the Tapped Hot bridge pickup:

1. Hot Bridge
2. Hot Bridge & Neck
3. Neck
4. Vintage Bridge & Neck
5. Vintage Bridge

Hey GH - were you planning on two Quarter Pounders? Lew's control layout is great if you only have a tapped-QP in the bridge, but it wouldn't take advantage of a tapped neck pup.

How would you like a simple 3-way switch for bridge/both/neck, then use a either a push/pull switch to go from tapped to full power? Or, if you can find a stacked 100k pot, you could go master volume/master tone/dial-a-tap and have tons of control and tonal options.

Whatever you do, have fun!

Yes, two tapped Quarter Pounders. I was thinking a five way megaswitch wired like a PRS, or something like that.

I don't understand why they are not available in white. Why?
You can't put a cover on it, and on a start i prefer white single-coils.
I have a SSL-7 and i have a single-coil cover from Schaller in cream, which fits perfect!
Schaller has also a quarter-pound-style Pickup, but with cover!

And the Schaller doesn't sound like a QP either...

Change the coil size and you change the tone of the pickup...simple as that.

The QP works beautifully (for those players who like that tone) just like it is.
