Quarter Pounder Mid Position Issue in Tele

I've just dropped a pair of new SD Quarter Pounders into a Tele with a 4 way switch. The rhythm pickup has a coil tap. My problem is that positions 1, 3 & 4 all sound great, but in the mid position (2) the power drops a significantly. I thought it might be a phase problem, although both the pickups are S Dunc's so should be in phase. When I reversed the phase on the bridge pickup it was worse, with positions 2,3 & 4 all having weaker signal; so I've gone back to the original connections. The guitar is wired in the usual way for a 4-way switch, has one vol + one tone pot (250k). I'm not a pickup expert, but have modded another Tele of mine before in a similar way (though only with a three way switch) without having this problem. Any ideas on a fix for this?

It’s in parallel so it would be lower output.

welcome to the forum!

do you use the tapped output for the neck pup? both pups in parallel usually have a little volume drop. flipping the phase should only effect the combined positions, the neck alone and bridge alone should both sound correct. if you have volume drop on one pup alone after a phase reversal, id check your wiring

Re: Quarter Pounder Mid Position Issue in Tele

Thanks Jeremy & Golem,
I have a mini switch on the neck pup so I can use it tapped or full on. Yes I'd expect some drop in volume for the mid position - it's just more pronounced than I expected, and more than on my older tele where I made the same pickup swap years ago. I've checked the wiring and all seems well, but I'll have another look . . .
