Quarterly Celtic Update

FRANKLIN RAWKS!!!!!!!!

It's time once again to sing the praises of our own resident

Super-Duper-Tone-Producer

Scott_F

I generally play at low volumes for a variety of reason, including live. But Friday I got to really crank the Franklin again.

1. I love EVERYTHING about this amp. I played with different guitar settings (but pretty much left the amp settings, except volume, alone). It sang out the highs of the bridge pickup (Brobucker), projected tremendous, luscious, warmth with the neck pickup (A2P), and just cooked overall.
2. Scott is correct: with good amp design and production, reverb is useless. I usually play with a Verbzilla (another great tool). I keep it set pretty wet at my typical playing volumes just to be able to hear it. Slight increases in the volume of Franklin make the 'verb overwhelming. I turned the 'verb down, and it STILL was overwhelming. Franklin sang out enough without it.
3. As good as the overdrive is in this amp, pushing it with the lead channel of an SD SFX03 Twin Tube Classic gave even better, smoother distortions. Nothing wrong with the former, but the latter was just tonal variety.
4. I need to practice more with the amp cranked. This thing REALLY exposes my sloppiness:smack::doh:
5. As much as I like my Parker Fly Deluxe, I like it even MORE through the Franklin cranked.

Here goes:

Volume: varied from 4-5 to 10
Low: 6
High: 4
Cut: 7.5
Master: 7.5

Scott based this model on the Matchless Lightning circuit...with improvements. I recently had the opportunity to play a used Lightning at GC. I played an SG through a 212 combo. I really liked the sounds I got from it. I did NOT like the faux glass handle. Otherwise, a :cool3: amp. BUT, the asking price was $1900. Scott can hook you up for much less.

I had not been able to get that sound from Franklin, so I looked for the opportunity to SEARCH for it. Well, I FOUND IT!!!!!!!...and MORE!!!!!

Bottom line: If you ever get the opportunity to have Scott build you an amp, GO FOR IT!

Clips:?:

Check the website. Those clips ARE my amp.

I don't have the capability to record an amp. I have provided clips of my axes through the POD, though.

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

Just looking for clips of you playing through your amp. Especially with the more simple circuits, different people's playing comes across very differently. No biggie -- just being tongue-in-cheek. ;)

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

I'd love to get 1 of Scott's amps, I just don't fancy shipping 1 over to the uk :(

That'll bug you for all of a couple weeks; the tone lasts a lifetime. I think my argument is iron-clad, which means you've just run out of excuses.

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

You know one of the things I like most aout the Celtic line is how flawless the design is, aesthetically. They are just beautiful, beautiful creations. I can't attest to how they sound, although obviously they are awesome, but they look so amazing.

If Scott's still doing this in 5 years, I'd love to get myself one.

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

Per my question in the other thread:
The more I listen to Edana the more I like it, can I push it hard with something into heavy gain like Randy Rhoads did with his JTM45s or maybe like YJM? I think it could be a very nice complement to my Laney AOR.

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

. . . seriously ;)

Don't tease him. You're slave labor on a large boat that docks out of galveston! I have this mental flashback to the movie "Cabin Boy". :scared:

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

SirJackedFuzz may leave South Africa a cabin boy, but he will return a cabin man.

Re: Quarterly Celtic Update

Good one Les! Celtics are pieces of work from what I hear and this is just another shining example!

Bah! and to think I live just a little while down the road!
