To really nail the tone - ahhh let me be the jerk here -
You need a wayyyyyyyy better rig. You need a Marshall made before 1990 (unless you had it done with Mercury Tranny's etc) and a real LP. Yeah yeah, let the hate mail come! I have played many a rig, and NOTHING sounds like a beat up LP standard thru a good old 100w Marshall. NOTHING DOES, don't fool yourself.

OK here is an OFFBEAT IDEA
Get an old Mesa like a Mark 2 or 3 and crank it with a hot plate, dial out some midrange (they are very fat in the mids, must have EQ) and you will have a low priced Marshall tone. The Mark 3s can come VERY CHEAP, esp the heads. Simul Class might help. V30s will work as might C90s. An EV12L will NOT. It's the cheapest fake Marshall tone I have ever heard.
Slash's tone with the legendary #39 can be achieved with a Jubilee, Bogner shiva, or modded Plexi if you ask me. It just sounds like a rodded Marshall with some post EQ, verb, compression, a touch of delay. In other words it's just classic brown tone - that's what makes it SOOOOO GOOD. It's timeless.
Remember, it's rumored Lynch might have used the same amp. All of them are cut from the same mold if you ask me. Pure tone with pure style.
