the sound clips in SD site are too short.
could some1 talk about the difference?
I am thinking the neck spot on my carvin neck thru. the carvin neck doesn't go well with the C5 in bridge.

What kinda music do you play? And you mean 59, right? 69 sounds kinda funny. :)

I've had a C5 and 59 combo in my LP Studio for a few years, and it was good. I think the 59 can be a bit bassy though. Recently I replaced the 59n with a Jazz to see how it sounds. I don't like the Jazz less than I like the 59. For medium to high gain leads, I think the 59 sounds more fluid. The Jazz isn't as bassy as the 59, but I feel that it's just not as fluid.

thanks for pointing out the typo!
I use the neck pickup for blusy stuff, clean or overdriven. no hi gain.

Re: Question: 59 neck vs. jazz neck

I have the 59/C5 in my Ibanez JS470 (bolt-on maple neck/Floyd Rose/Basswood body/Rosewood fretboard), and I'm very happy w/ the set. Clear and articulate in all positions, not too sterile, good output without being too hot, and I like the extra bass the 59 gives over the stocker. The 2 HB's match very well tonally too IMO. I haven't tried the Jazz in this guitar, and I don't think I will given how happy I am w/ the 59.

I use the guitar for modern tones, while still being able to pull off some 60's & 70's rock sounds as well.

Re: Question: 59 neck vs. jazz neck

I hear the Jazz neck as having more genuine highs...more upper harmonics. More sparkle way up on top. And a little more overall clarity and a little less bass. The Jazz is still a powerful and rockin' pickup though...it will overdrive an amp beautifully.

Lew is right, I love my Jazz, had a '59 in another LP but I didn't get on with it too great, a bit too bassy for me.

Re: Question: 59 neck vs. jazz neck

To me, personally, the Jazz and '59 have a similar bass. Where I hear the biggest difference is in the low-mids and top end harmonics like Lew said. The '59 has more low-mid than the Jazz which gives it a more thick and fluid feel. The Jazz has an extra-extended top end that helps impart that clarity. I wouldn't say one is any better than the other, it's more of a personal preference and what fits the guitar / musical style.

That's a perfect description of the difference between the two. :beerchug: Best one so far, IMO!

Re: Question: 59 neck vs. jazz neck

That description is pretty much perfect. For me, I prefer the 59 over the Jazz due to the low mids and "fluidity" of character. They are both great pickups, but I seemed to mesh better with the 59.

Re: Question: 59 neck vs. jazz neck

I'll have to agree with Lew as well. The only additional thing I've noticed is that I like the 59n better in a bolt on neck strat type guitar (read brighter guitar). I recently had a 59n in the neck of a Les Paul. It was decent, but like many have said, was a little mushy/bassy. I went back to a Jazz in that guitar and am much happier.
