question about 250k and 500k pots in a HH strat???

I got this custom strat with 2 SD 59' humbuckers in it. It's supposed to be build like Jimmy Herring's strat. I've tried several different combinations with my amp, speakers, tubes, pedals and strings and could not seem to get rid of this annoying tinny sound.......way too bright and hard. It just dawned on me that it might be the pots. I'm guessing it has 500k pots in there now.

I'm wanting a more softer attack, a "spongier feel".......more syrupy leads and overall mellower sound. Would putting a 250k pots in a HH strat with a three way switch help me achieve this? I'm going for the Jimmy Herring/Derek Trucks type leads and sounds.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

250K would probably do about what you want if lowering the pickups doesn't mellow them the way you want.

I think you could probably get a similar result by putting a 750K resistor, or whatever standard value is close to that, between the input terminal of the 500K pot, and the ground. That should give you about a 300K pot.

Here's a parallel resistor calculator webpage:
