I picked up a seymour duncan "bass 4000" amp (a haed, not a combo). can anyone tell me what years they were made? can it be dated by the serial number?

loud, clean, looks like a GK 800RB except for the giant cooling fins and the different face.

thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know the exact dates of manufacture, but checking a 1992 price list (the last year of manufacture -- I think 1989 was the first), the list price was $1,095 and the description was, "A 400 watt @ 4 ohms workhorse, 7 band active EQ, high and low contour switches."

Best of luck with the amp.

thank you very much, Evan! I was beginning to think I wouldn't find an answer here. just knowing the approximate year is good enough for me. I had no idea whether it was made in 1985, 1995, or 2002, for example... so "1990-ish" is enough info to make me happy. I really like the amp- very clean and warm for a solid state head.

thanks again!

I have a 1988 Guitar Player's Buyer's Guide that has the 400x400w amp in it.

I have two of the 300x300w heads and they're great. I don't think anything at the time could have touched these babies...

Evan, is there any kind of support you guys have for these heads? If you want I'd be happy to take pics of my more stock of the two heads- AFAIK it's still stock.
