Question about allen screws

I'm mostly digging on the sound of my custom 8, but I think the bass needs to get punchier, tighter. It's boomy on the low end and I want to rectify that. I'm wondering if allen screws would help preserve the tone I like while curing the bass issues I'm having.

Now I have tried adjusting the pickups and the EQ, but that didn't help as much as I wanted it to. Is screw swapping the solution to my problem, or should I try something else?

Ok cool. Parts ordered. Now we play the waiting game.

And the cool part is that I'll have enough pole pieces left over to completely swap all of the poles on the invader I have sitting around.

The screws came in the mail today. I got 27 instead of 18. 50% extra screws isn't a bad deal, although I'm not sure why it happened that way. I'm not complaining though.

I finally got them in my pickup. After some trial and error I found the best balance on the pickup came from a half allen half original screw mix. The allen screws under the low strings improved the bass response. Its not boomy like it used to be. Originally I had the whole row replaced with allen screws, but they made the high strings get that icepick piercing quality that was just too much. The compromise came when I replaced the originals back in on the high end. they helped to round off the icepick on the high end.

I've got the pickup in a basswood guitar with a maple neck with maple fretboard. The regular custom 8, like I said before, was boomy on the low end. Now it is balanced and the pickup sings. It is a beautiful tone on the cleans and when I play it through my little big muff it gives me a great buzzsaw tone.

All in all, the half-allen C8 brought my tone to a new level, and the best part was modding the original C5 only cost me about $10 bucks in total.

I'm thinking about putting allens in the bass side of my A8 hybrid for the same reason.

I fancy putting some on the wound strings of my JB but the cost from the USA is prohibitive.... can't find any in the UK. :eek1:

Plus, noone's explained why the guy has 2 adverts for the same thing and he hasn't answered my query either.

I only want 3 screws though for my wound strings, does anyone wanna sell me some ???????? :fingersx:

where does one get allen screws and are they direct replacement? I, being the lover of the C8, must try this!

They're the same screws that come in a full shred or a screamin' demon. They are direct replacement screws that fit right in provided you have an allen (hex head) wrench that fits inside the screw. I think they're 2.5mm.

You can gut them from old pickups. I think the ibanez INF 3 and 4 use them if you have those laying around. Otherwise Addiction FX sells them.

On quick glance it looks like they only have the black ones in small enough quantity to make any sense in buying.

I've got a full shred coming soon. I'm going to install it and give it a chance stock. Then an UOA5 and A8 magnet swaps. Then possibly filister screws on the high strings. This thread was very helpful!
