Question about amp storage

Not sure what model it is but my friend has a Crate tube amp in his attic that he said he would sell to me. He hasn't used this amp in a few years I'm guessing. Do you think anything would be wrong with it considering that it has been stored in an attic?

Re: Question about amp storage

Where are you located? What is the condition of the attic? How dusty/dirty is the amp?

Re: Question about amp storage

I bought my pro junior from my old guitar teacher, it had been sitting in a cabinet for 3 years, it was dusty but i think everything on it was the same as when he put it into the cabinet, i say "the same" because it is kinda broken, needs a new input jack and pots, the bias might have shifted on the tubes but i doubt it.

Re: Question about amp storage

Because attics in some parts of the country can get really hot, the only thing I'd be worried about is the speaker. There's glue in there that might decay.

Amp do like to be run, but it doesn't sound like this is too terribly old. Probably no issues.

Re: Question about amp storage

I'd worry more about a damp basement than a hot attic. Mold and rust are more problematic than plain old dust.

Besides, a "few years" is nothing in tube amp time.

Just give it a gentle wipe-off (or vacuuming) and bring it up slowly. Play quietly for a while to let it warm up before cranking eveything to 11.

Re: Question about amp storage

Thanks for the help guys. I'm not sure of the condition of where it is store, but I'd image it's pretty clean. I'm located outside of Philadelphia, so we get hit with some hot summers and some cold winters. I'd image it might be alittle dusty, but that should be a big deal. If the speaker is bad, is that something I could replace myself?

It should be pretty easy to replace the speaker. I wouldn't worry about that...
