Question about bridge pickup angle on Strat

Hi,

I installed a JB Jr. to replace the bridge pickup in my Strat. It seems to work fine, but since the bridge pickup position is angled in a Strat, the metal screws in the top of the pickup don't line up directly under the strings. Just wondering if that's a problem. Thanks in advance...

Re: Question about bridge pickup angle on Strat

The problem is the pickguard. Get a guard with out the angled position.

Both sets of screws won't line up perfectly. What you should see is the back row lined up better under the bass strings and gradually it changes to the front row lining up better under the treble strings. That's normal for the single-coil sized humbuckers.

The problem is not the pickguard. You don't need another one.

Is this by design, or does it just not make that much of a difference?

It's just how it was designed. I had a Little '59 in my Strat for a long time and the strings weren't all that far off. It sounded just fine. Here's a pic.

Cool. I really didn't want to change out the pickguard.

Actually, I should have said there is no problem since there isn't one anyway. :)

Re: Question about bridge pickup angle on Strat

ive found that wheather or not the pole peices line up with the strings is pretty irrelevant. maby on pickups where the pole pieces are the magnets it might matter (some single coils are like this I believe)

ive got a trem spaced pup in a gibson spaced guitar....sounds fine, string to string balance is good. i also installed a duncan pickup slightly off centre, so the strings dont line up directly over the pole peices, more on one side, makes no diference to my ear.

Re: Question about bridge pickup angle on Strat

I have found the alignment between pole pieces and strings to be very significant. If you can't hear the difference, leave it the way it is. If you can hear the difference, use small screwdrivers to raise the pole pieces, and adjust the pickup height. I have a JB Jr. in my Squier, but it's the Lil 59 in the bridge position which is totally misaligned on my guitar. I just lengthened the pole pieces a little and dropped one side of the pickup a little deeper into the guitar to even out the sound.
