question about Duncan Custom

I hear the custom is a great pup, but does it give solid note definition with palm mutes? and if not, what's another pup that does? I want to be able to hear EVERY note in a palm mute if I change a chord or sumthin. Also, about this Return Policy, is it available in Canada, and if so how does it apply/how can u use it?

Re: question about Duncan Custom

yes it has solid definition, and you can hear every single note. thats why i love it :)

and im pretty sure the exchange policy is availiable in canade.

Re: question about Duncan Custom

Harmonics are great when you play on the custom by itself but less easy to obtain when blended with the 59 neck. I use this configuration in a LP studio so it would be different in another guitar.

Re: question about Duncan Custom

The custom is really articulate while palm muting, sounds nice and crunchy and yesss, there are plenty of harmonics... great pick-up in my ltd deluxe.. I'm pretty positive that you'll like it if what you asked about is pretty much what you're looking for. :)

Re: question about Duncan Custom

I was wondering why if this model is really that great why dont more metal guys use it? is it lame sounding for metal?

Re: question about Duncan Custom

Distortion is good too. Personally I like both pickups a lot for what you are describing.

I'm not sure about Metal bands, but I could tell you about an amazing player named Jason Becker. He played pretty heavy stuff, ofcourse mixed with his amazing virtuoso skills. I recommend looking into his stuff, but please note he used a JB too!

Re: question about Duncan Custom

Yeah, the Custom is good for heavy stuff. Has a good bass crunch thats punchy and tight when you palm mute. It's pretty aggressive.

Re: question about Duncan Custom

Yeah I have the Custom in my LP. Great pickup. Very tight and clear, and rather aggressive. EQ'ed towards the mids and highs but there is plenty of bass. Good harmonics, though no quite as good as the JB IMO. When combined with a tamer neck pup it does calm down somewhat but in a good way. It can do metal easily but I think of it as more of a hard rock kind of pickup... just my personal opinion though.

Can't really say much that hasn't been said already. I've got one in my Epi Sg and it makes a world of difference. Great for heavy stuff...I currently have my SG tuned to "drop C" i guess its called (CGCFAD) and it does the job well. I've questioned this pickup, but have come to conclude I just don't like my amp anymore.

Troy Stetina, who's written a lot of metal method books, uses a Custom in his Jackson. His website (stetina.com) has tons of sound samples from his methods, and most were recorded with the Jackson.

Re: question about Duncan Custom

Custom kicks butt for Metal. My buddy used it in a really good Tharsh/Speed metal band some years back and it sounds awesome. I have it in one of my guitars and I play mostly hardrock/metal and it works great.

Re: question about Duncan Custom

The ceramic magnet and extra winds make the Custom a good choice for metal. The bass and mids are harder, and it will definitely do a great job for palm muted type stuff.
