Question about Duncan Customs

Hello everyone,

Brand new to the board, long time fan of the duncans. My question for you guys is about these Duncan Custom buckers (I know there's 3 different kinds, one of which you guys helped make). I play blues and blues-rock mostly with the occasional "jam" type stuff. I have several Les Pauls and was wondering which of these Customs would work well for the blues (Chicago Electric/Slide) blues. I already have a '59 & JB in one of my other Pauls and wanted to experiment with new stuff. Who better to ask than you guys? Thanks!

Eventhough I do not own nor have I ever played with a C5. I think it'd be your best choice from all the describtions I've read from everyone. I have a Custom and a Custom Custom both in Les Pauls. While they are both great pickups, I think they both tend to be on the heavier side of the spectrum. Your best bet would probably be the C5 for the bluesier type stuff.

That is unless you're really wanting some mids in there for slide stuff. If so, the CC is the ticket. Definitely not the Duncan Custom though.

I read on the net that Derek Trucks used CCs in the bridge position of his Washburns. I'm not sure how true that is though.

A C5/Seth combo would really do well for blues and slide work in a Les Paul. I would worry that the CC would be too dark in an LP, although it really depends on the tonal properties of the specific Lester. Plenty of folks didg them in LP's. The Custom would just be too agressive.

I had a seth in the neck of my Dean hardtail for a while, and it excelled at dirty blues work. C5 won't let you down either.

Re: Question about Duncan Customs

I'm not gonna lie to you fellas, you may think that putting an A5 magnet in a Custom is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but a few short years down the road there will be an even better pickup that the forum makes. I'm not at liberty to discuss the details, but it sounds halfway between a C5 and a '59.

And buy your Gibsons now before QC goes downhill.
