Question about Fender colors...

May be a really dumb, obvious question...but after going over the Fender website, catalogs, and Fender's color chart on their website, I just get more and more confused.

Can anyone explain to me what the difference between Olympic White and Arctic White are?

I see pictures of Olympic white as a mild cream, and I see pictures of it as the whitest white of all!

And the same applies to Arctic White.

I intially thought the Olympic white was the cream, and Arctic white was the super white. But on Fender's color chart, it shows quite the opposite.

Which is what guys? My head hurts!

Re: Question about Fender colors...

Olympic White looks like a hasn't been painted in 5 years wall white whereas Arctic is a brilliant white, white.

Re: Question about Fender colors...

Olympic White has a slight Blue hue to it, While Arctic is close to pure White.
You really have to see the colors in person tell the difference. Cream,Vintage White and Banana pudding are pretty much the same.

Re: Question about Fender colors...

those always confused me aswell.

Let's see if I can clear things up a bit? Rant Inspired by useless information obtained by working 20 years in the Graphic Arts Profession.

White and Black are NOT colors ! They are shades.:) Shades are perceived by the eye differently by the amount of light they reflect or absorb. Any guitar you see in print can be drastically different in appearance. Even if a white guitar has been photographed properly? In most case's it's true appearance will be lost in the printing process. White ink is almost never used in color printing. the Printer has to rely on the shade of whiteness the paper/stock he has to work with. Just as a guitar will yellow with time. Paper will turn yellow faster. So there you have it... Any Question's?:laugh2:

KMC your profession if anything makes you less qualified to comment on color.

I've noticed that alot of the MiM stuff that i see in shops thats Artic White has more of a cream tint to it also. Hmmm.

Listen, if Ken is talking about a WHITE guitar, you had better listen. I simply described the white I wanted for the strat that Ken finished, and I gave him one lousy example picture...and he nailed it. Nailed the shade, transparancy...everything. Perfect in nitro...sweet.

So when Ken talkes colors, Ken is the man.

My first six-string guitar was an MIA Tele in Olympic White (this was about four years ago). It was more off-white (slight cream color) than anything else. I didn't see the slightest hint of blue.

Re: Question about Fender colors...

Olympic white signifies that you are in the market for drugs and want to recieve oral sex. Arctic white signifies that you are selling drugs and want to give head. It's basically a combination of the hankie/rolled up cuff rules.

I didn't realize I was being that obvious...

For the record, I still want to receive oral secks...but I don't own the guitar anymore. :blackeye:

Off White is the key word there. Adding Blue to White tones down the white a bit (Remember the Rant about White being a shade) Toning it down means it will absorb light more than neutral white. Hence making it Off White... That can be perceived as cream. If you don't believe me ...Fine.:laugh2:

Here's a Quote from Bill Lester of Reranch (The guy who mixes paint for a Living.)

Olympic White
While very white the color has a slight blue component in the mix. It can be clear coated to give an aged yellow appearance although it is believed that Fender did not clear coat the color because of this very reason. A white primer coat will serve well to prevent any natural color in the wood from bleeding through. It is a great color for use with gold components such as seen on the SG Les Paul Custom.
