question about firmware updating (interface) mac & pc usage

Contacted tascam, but thought I'd get your guys' take on this:

for something like a tascam interface (us-144 mkii) - if I go through the process of updating the firmware on my laptop PC, do you think it would then not work on my mac? Ideally I want to use it for both, but don't want to "wipe out" anything that may be used for mac recognition, since it is at least working with that computer.

I'll do quick recordings and mix on the mac, but for more elaborate mobility, I'd love to be able to use w/my pc laptop as well to at least track stuff in the location of my amps.

Re: question about firmware updating (interface) mac & pc usage

The firmware on my US-122 (for sale btw) is loaded at every boot, and that means it is contained in the windows drivers (or in the case of Linux you manually copy it to the device).

Why do you think you needs to actually needs to update the hardware?

Looked like in order to use the latest driver for windows 7, tascam suggested updating firmware too but I'll check again

edit:
yeah, there was a firmware and driver update for windows 7 - says one should run latest of both. the fact that it doesn't really alter the innards of the unit is a good sign though.
